Good afternoon,

I'm a chemical engineering student and I made a simulation of a depropanizer in Aspen Plus with the objective of determining the equipment specifications. I'm trying to size the condenser and reboiler, but when I try to view the streams I require for that (In the Profiles result tab) there is no flow from the condenser or the reboiler being reintroduced to the column. Any help in resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,

Sofia

I am a HYSYS users. I use the column stream export feature to do what you are looking to do. Look for a similar feature in Aspen Plus.

Silva,

You can define pseudo-streams in Aspen. The way I do is that I would take the net vapor from Stage 2 as the first pseudo-stream. Let us call it Top_Vap. This then goes to the condenser, which is simulated by providing proper pressure and a condenser duty stream is transferred to the heat exchanger.

Similar for the reboiler, you can use the pseudo-streams. Please note that the pseud-stream does not affect the column material balance. However, if you are not careful then  you may feed this stream to an unit and then create mass out of nowhere.

Hope this helps you.

Abhishek
