What happen if we did not remove temporary strainer that we installed during start-up? The temporary strainer (conical) was installed at pump suction.

What happen if we did not remove temporary strainer that we installed during start-up? The temporary strainer (conical) was installed at pump suction.

It could eventually get dirty/plugged and cause problems (cavitation), or if it's a clean, non-corrosive service all it'll cost you is the pressure drop/power for the life of the pump.

From experience, I think many clients tend to forget to remove this temporary strainer.
As a process engineer, we don't usually pressure drop in the pump calc because the intent is removing it after the first shutdown.
As latexman correctly pointed out, if the TS is not removed, pressure drop will occur which eats up some NPSHa.
