Hi
I have a query concerning the location of the PSV on a Stabilisation Column at a Natural Gas Company. The Stabilisation Package consists of a horizontal Reboiler Section and attached to it is a vertical column 10 inches in diameter, 20 ft high. The column will be filled with packing and above the top packing will be a wire mesh. The Stabilisation will be for Condensate.
The designers propose to locate the PSV (set pressure of 6.9 barg) at the top of the 10 inch column rather than on the Reboiler (which is about 2 - 3 ft in diameter). The Reboiler also has a MAWP of 6.9 barg.
I am of the opinion that the PSV should be located on the larger Reboiler since there will be some pressure drop occurring on route to the PSV and the Reboiler will be at the slightly higher pressure than the coulmn.
Wouldn't it be better to protect the higher pressure equipment, the Reboiler?
Can you please guide me on this with respect to the best practices in industry or Codes that reference these?
I have been working in the Petrochemical industry for 8 years.
Thank!!
