Our Sulfuric acid production plant has high acid mist issue. Sulfuric acid mist SO3+H2O coming out along the stack gases S02 and other. Acid mist in stack and in ambiance is more than allowable by environmental air standards. Please suggest what could be possible causes of this high rate of acid mist in stack and what are possible solution? If install demister what should be porosity sizes and material of construction so that it wont corrode and doesn't give too much pressure on stack exhaust gases.

Hi Khan,

It would be the best method to provide lots of long candle filters packed with glass wools to which circulating water or low-concentration sulfuric acid is sprayed.   Some trial or error method will be required to determine the surface area of the filter and to find the liquid rate and the concentration of the sulfuric acid to get maximum absorption efficiency.
