Dear All,

Have you ever saw/design pump double seal system (52A nonpressurized) with buffer fluid PSH and LSH trip which stops the pump in case of activation.

API 682 and all pumps sealing systems vendors documents suggest only alarms from this instrumentation but mine subcontractor insist to stop the pump by taking out permission signal via DCS system.

The pump is operating with C4 fraction.

Any your opinion will be appreciated.

Kind regards

Hi Beergson,

In our Ammonia Plant, We have double seal system in Liquid Ammonia Pumps but we do not have any tripping of low level or high level of buffer fluid. Generally, the buffer fluid is at lower pressure than internal seal pressure, so in case of internal seal failure, process fluid will go in buffer pot due to low pressure of buffer fluid.

Shankar
