Hi,

I'm having some trouble breaking down this project question:

"To design a total horizontal shell and tube condenser which condenses 2.5 kg/s of saturated toluene vapor at 4.5 barg to a saturated liquid using cooling water at 50°C and 2.5 barg with a maximum temperature increase of 20°C."

My questions are"

1. is the Tout temperature found at the boiling temperature of toluene? i.e. at a saturated liquid?

2. for the cooling water, is Tout 70degC? (50degC +20degC)

3. is Tin for toluene found antonie's equation?

4. If i am to construct a temperature-enthalpy diagram how can I do that with the information given? dont think I've ever seen a temperature-enthalpy diagram for toluene

please help

Hi,

Here to support your work : a data base for toluene where you will find all the data needed to answer your questions .

note : point 4 : refer to heat of vaporization

We are not doing your homework but we are happy to help.

Good luck
