Good morning community,

I need to check the real capacity of an existing Flare. I just have the highest and diameter of the flare, and some gas properties, I'd read the API 521 but I´m not pretty sure what i´m doing is correct. My puntual question is if I just need to check capacity, Can I do it with the diameter calculation formula Omiting the flare distortion, the radiation, and the height? In case no, could you please teach me how I should do it?

Thanks

NataRod,

I am not aware of any theoretical calculation method; but you can evaluate same in Flarenet software.

To do it perfectly, you need wide range of data:

1. Isometrics of entire flare network

2. knowledge of various relief scenarios, their respective flow rate, composition.

You can use rating mode in flarenet  and see that till what maximum flow rate , flare network is within range of design criteria viz. Mach number, rho v 2 criteria, noise level.

Further to study radiation effect, you can use PHAST for this governing flow rate.

The flow rate at which all criteria  are OK will be your limit of Flare system.
