In Aspen HYSYS, I always found that the crude oil kinematic viscosity within simulation environment -for streams or petroleum feeder-, differ from the viscosity within the properties environment, whenever the crude created by "oil manager" or created by "petroleum assays manager".

The difference Range from 20% up to 55%.

For example the crude "Belayim Land-2013", which included in the petroleum assay manager library, has a kinematic viscosity @ 100 F = 45 cSt, while in the simulation environment it's calculated = 22.8 cSt @ 100 F.

p.s., the density is exactly the same value in both environments.

Any suggestions?!!

Look for the public assay for the crude.

Hi Bobby,

if you mean the actual assay from lab, yes i have it, and it has viscosity as what in properties environment, and that what i'm asking about...

whatever the assay I created myself or got from the hysys library, what actually very confusing that the viscosity is given and HYSYS characterized the crude with the same value, so why there's such a huge difference in the two values when t calculated again in the simulation environment, even if there's two different correlations for each environment, it's supposed to be with small difference.

I know that we can't rely on simulators or in mathematical correlations in general for predicting properties that depends on molecular structure and function groups like viscosity, pour point, ... etc, but hysys has calculate it twice with different values each time, WHY?
