Does anyone know if there is a API or industry standard requirement for always having a shut down valve in the outlet of a surge tank with a pump downstream. Thanks

I recall that API has a recommendation to provide a remote operated valve between the tank and the pump. It depends on the tank volume whether the valve is required or not.

chemproc,
Not always required such SDV; it's really required downstream of the tanks containing great volume of flammable liquid to prevent relieving the flammable liquid through the outlet line following to the line failure due to any reason...

Thanks Fallah, do you know of any industry standard such as API or other codes that speaks to this issue? Thanks
