Hi, i'm a student and I'm working on a project of R32 refrigerant production. My question is about the removal of HCl from the product.The molar fraction of HCl is 0,67. My project partners have sized a distillation column, but i think it's more appropriate a scrubber and a packed bed adsorption (but much harder to size). I would like some opinion about it. Thanks

A thought -- not trying to tell you which technology to choose, but to explain a little of what I see out in the engineering community. For most tasks/processes, there are multiple technologies that could be used to accomplish it. Each technology will present various reasons it might be better than other technologies, and also reasons that it might be worse than other technologies. As a student project, I might suggest that it is more important that you can give your reasons for choosing one technology over the others, than whether you choose "the one correct" technology.

 

If this is an individual project, then choose a technology, and, as part of the design description and explanation, explain why you are choosing this technology.

 

If this is a team project, then present your idea, why you think it might be superior to distillation, then listen to the rest of the team explain why they are choosing distillation. Part of the team exercise is to learn to work together, weighing the reasons for and against each technology, until you come to a consensus on which technology to use. Some of this might involve part of the team exploring each technology you agree to look at in order to make a good decision.
