I have given the task of designing a rupture disk which should trigger at 9 bar pressure. I don't have an idea or know a point where to start. So can someone please guide me in the correct direction? My initial thought was to do it as pressure vessel wall thickness calculation, but I am not 100% sure about it. So can someone please at least name me some materials that I could refer?

Try to read and follow API 520 Part 1, then submit your design report to an experienced relief system designer for approval.

As most students, you are stating information in a confused and seemingly unrelated manner. Allow me to cite what I think is your student assignment:
Design a rupture disk for a vessel with a Maximum Allowable Pressure (MAWP) of 9 bar(g) pressure. (Note that I use gauge pressure; what do you mean?)
By “design”, I presume you mean MECHANICAL and not PROCESS design. Is that correct? As Fallah correctly states, the process design specifications are normally listed on a Data Sheet and submitted to a recognized and experienced rupture disc supplier/manufacturer. No one - besides a qualified designer/fabricator- in my opinion, is qualified to mechanically design the fabrication of a rupture disc that is designed to credibly rupture at a critical and pre-determined pressure. No engineer would trust a student to credibly do the mechanical design. So this part of your request is troubling or confusing - unless you mean a process design - which is, again, what I believe Fallah assumes.
One troubling part of your explanation is that you think a calculation for a pressure vessel wall thickness is called for. What has led you to think that the thickness of the vessel is related with rupture disc? You already know the set pressure of the rupture disc, so why calculate the vessel thickness? Perhaps you are not telling us ALL of the given basic data your instructor has fed you. This is the case in almost all student related assignments that reach our Forums. The lack of proper and accurate communication is usually the main reason why most students simply don’t “get it”.
For the sake of simply knowing what the total assignment is, please be clear and detailed as to what you need to do to fulfill the assignment. If you are to succeed as a practicing engineer in the future, you must first practice proper, detailed, and accurate communications. Our experienced members - such as Fallah - can help you, but you must be candid and tell them the whole, detailed story of the assignment.
