Hello everyone
i am working in oil production company, recently we have a problem with one of our fields due to increasing water cut in wells. we have large pipeline 12'' from wells to gas production facility can handle more than 50000 BFPD(oil+water) with associated gas without any back pressure on wells but we have a limitation on the facility it self it can handle only 25000 BFPD. in the same time we have an oil facility in the neighborhood have the capacity to handle the excess fluid from the pipeline but it not have compressors to produce gas. So if we divert the pipeline we will flare the gas about 10 MMSCFD and this is a huge amount to flare it (from environment and production view) not from facility flaring capacity. another option is to separate the liquid before entering gas facility and divert it to oil facility and divert gas to gas facility but it needs a large separator can handle 50000 BFPD and this is cannot easily find in market. one of staff recommended what called dip-leg to separate the liquid. it is simply a large pipeline 18'' or 24'' to decrease flow velocity then collect 25000 bfpd from pipe bottom and remaining gas and oil go to gas facility. noting that we don't need good separation we need only to make selectivity major of oil stream go to oil plant and major of gas stream go to gas plant.
I attached the proposal pic for review. I want to know if any one see this configuration before? and can from your opinion separate liquid? and what are the concerns of using this technique?
