Dear Fellows,

Recently we are facing high vibration of Turbo Expander,

Actually few days before when we started the unit after  completion of annual turn around, the expander side Y/X vibration increased to 1.1mils/0.9 mils from previous value of 0.42/0.40 mils. similarly Recompressor side  Y/X vibration were also increased to 0.80/0.78mils from 0.20/0.20 mils.in ATA we just replaced the lube oil with the similar grade as it was before and cleaned the inlet strainer of  expander and recompressor.

the Turbo Expander is used for cooling down natural gas from -30F to -111F with inlet/outlet pressure of 930 psig/300 psig.

Could you people list the probable causes of this rise in vibration.

Regards,

Kashif

Hi ,

A few pointers :

how long your equipment was shut down ?

What is the procedure during the shut down regarding the rotating equipment ? Did you perform any action to avoid unbalance ? cleaning , manual rotation ….

What about the calibration of the sensors ? Could be affected with the shut down?

What are the vendor's recommendations ? take a look at the manual and or contact the vendor .

my 2 cents.

Breizh

Hi Mr Breizh,

Thank you for your response;

The equipment was shutdown for four consecutive days. The procedure is to gradually unload the equipment and then give shutdown command from the panel, after shutdown seal gas and lube oil system remain live until they shutdown manually.

the activity that were carried out during shutdown were to replace it lube with the fresh lot and cleaning of inlet strainers.

we have checked the calibration of vibration probes by shutting down the equipment and ensures its zero.

the vibration are decreasing and increasing directly in relation with the RPM.

I want to know your opinion on the possibility of lube oil accumulation inside the expander assembly and could not have drained properly before startup, then does it has any potential to harm rotor assembly.

Regards,

Kashif
