I am trying to estimate the heat loss of an 8000 ft above ground ethane pipeline.  There are a number of resources to estimate heat loss given ambient temperature and wind speed, but I have not been able to find any resources that provide a good estimate of heat loss during a rain case?

 

I suppose that I can make an assumption that during a heavy rain event, the pipe is "submerged" in liquid water, but it seems that this would over-estimate the conductive heat loss.

 

Does anybody know of any resources that provide heat loss correlations/estimations that include rain events?

I would try using a falling film heat transfer coefficient.  It's hard to imagine it submerged.
