Hi

I have 200 m3 non refrigerated ammonia storage tank.(under 7 barg  natural pressure).

Liquid ammonia is withdrawn from the bottom.

since there is no active vent, whenever the withdrawal rate is exceeding the ambient  heating, the pressure in the vessel drops .

it interferes the stable operation of the downstream consumers.

I would like to add a N2 blanketing with pressure control to maintain constant pressure (with a split rake control , i.e small pressure excess will be purged to a scrubber).

I have used such an arrangement for chlorine and hydrocarbons in the past.

any comment  for the applicability of the N2 blanketing pressure control for ammonia ?

thanks

Best to upgrade or replace the pumps. Sounds like a poor design of the original installation.
