Hi, I am in my final year and is doing a project on synthesis of methyl methacrylate. I am doing oxidation of isobutene and is doing a reactor design for it. I realised that there are side products for oxidation of isobutene such as CO and CO2 but cannot simulate that in Hysys. How do I stimulate side products in my stimulation?

Define the reaction extents, what kind of model are you builiding.  Kinetic, equilibrium, fixed converision or?  All the reaction equations can be added to the reaction scheme.

Hi, my reactions are kinetic reaction and I have keyed in into hysys. I am using PFR to simulate it but apparently my conversion of isobutene is damn low. So here are my following reactions for oxidation of isobutene.

Isobutene + oxygen -> methacrolein + water

Isobutene + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water

Isobutene +oxygen -> acetone + water + carbon dioxide

Isobutene + oxygen -> acetic acid + water + carbon dioxide

the reaction is exothermic and i was given to obtain 50 kgtonne/annum of methacrolein. The plant operates at 8000h/annum. The current conversion I am obtaining is very low (~ 25% ) for methacrolein. I have checked my kinetics with others and it seems to be correct. I am just wondering what's the issue as my friends are able to get up to 80% of the conversion. I have attached some information of my aspen here.

 what is your rate basis?? is it reactor volume or catalyst amount? and remember the unit of pre-exponential factor is in SI unit using aspen plus or hysys
