Hi,
I am working on an old plant that a HAZOP study has never been done before installation.
What's the best approach now to ensure it's safe? Carry HAZOP on the existing design?

Obviously, yes.

Hi,
It's a good practice to perform regular HAZOP studies of the full plant. In my last company a full review was performed every 5 years .
Prior to start you need to have all your Pids updated .
Good luck

Updating P&IDs is a major effort! It can take months. You might want to consider an alternate.

In the U.S. the laws require P&IDs and documented hazard assessments.
See https://www.osha.gov...r/1910/1910.119
Not all our laws make sense, but the safety laws were generally made at the cost of someone's blood.
If the plant design company still exists, they may be of help. Consultants can be hired to guide a HAZOP if needed.
