Hello.
I'm working on a project that involves tank design. Why are there bottom stiffeners on the tank's shell, I wonder?
I read annex V.8.2.3 of the api 650 standard, however it has information on height calculations and stiffening ring dimensioning, but it does not state why.

The floor to shell joint will be under the most pressure, due to liquid head.

Exists a range?
Should reinforcement be used if it surpasses the value?
or ought to I do a FEA?
