Hi. I'm working on a batch distillation (psuedo-steady state as the distillate is fed back into the reboiler/feed tank). 7.5 % MeOH in water distilled to 97%vol. purity using 50 mm column, 8 sieve trays at 55mm spacing. I'm dealing with flooding right now. Basically I need the coefficient Kv for my column, but can't find a graph for one with such a small spacing.... Once I have Kv I can get my max. allowable vapor velocity and then pressure drop. Then I can use this correlation for flooding prediction etc... any help???????

Henry,
Your column is a a laboratory column, too small to find a reliable correlation in the litterature. Probably the supplier has some data.
Besides, your tray spacing is very low, you'll be quite prone to jet-flooding,
and gas velocity is not the only parameter that is relevant. Bernard
