Hi,
I have saturated steam at temp 160degC. Is it possible to heat up this steam in shell and tube heat exchager and obtain dry steam?
Thank you for help.

Saturated steam can be superheated and often is superheated in coils in the convection section of fired equipment. What do you have in mind as a heat medium for your steam exchanger? Usually steam at such low pressures is not worth superheating from saturation conditions. Steam traps are used to remove condensate. What extra value would you have if the steam were superheated? Would that extra value pay for an exchanger and heating medium?

Hi,
Thank you for all answers. In general I would like to use biomass to create dry steam.
I was looking for different equipment on the market and I found biomass steam generator with capacity of 200kg/hr which is producing saturated steam at temp 170deg C and pressure 0.7MPa. I was thinking that I can heat up this steam and create dry steam in heat exchanger. Is it possible?

Steam is frequently superheated in shell and tube exchangers for example on crude oil atm/vacuum unit product rundown lines. On the other hand, why not just use a furnace and raise the steam in the radiation section and superheat it in the convection section? Or less economic, compress the staurated steam to a higher pressure, in which case it will be dry.
