Why do we consider steady state while applying 1st law of thermo on open systems like turbine,nozzle , compresssor , etc? Is it some kind of rough approximation or it has a reasonable basis?

Most, if not all processes, you deal with in industrial process systems are in steady state conditions. In any section of the system the properties are constant. Even if they were not steady state the system properties at any point could still be derived based on steady state relationships. Of course you can go from one steady state to another through a transition process but the transistioning is not what you are designing for.
