Dear all,

I have one question about energy consumption calculation method and standards.

In China, there is one national standard that gives the methods of energy consumption for refinary and chemical industry.

The standards give conversion factors to calculation the energy consumption of different enenrgy types. For example:

1 ton gasline equal to 1030kg standard oil.

1 ton 10.0MPa steam equal to 92 kg standard oil

1 ton cooling water equal to 0.06kg standard oil...

My question is which standards are followed in US for energy consumption calculation? Thanks!

Matt

Hi,

You may want to use this calculator.

https://h2tools.org/...uivalency-fuels

Note: Based on my 10 years' experience in China and industrial parks I was puzzled with the fact that there was no policy in place to recycle the steam condensate back to power plants. Most of the time the hot water is dumped to the nearby river.

Edit: additional resource based on heating value .

It's better calculate it based on fuel gas composition, which is what most refineries burn these days.
