Hello everyone,

I was trying to find an example how to simulate a vacuum system in Aspen Plus. But, I could not find an article online.
Could you please share your experience with me?

Hi,
If you master atmospheric distillation, should be easy.
Try YouTube, you should find videos.

I was not very precise. I am not interested in vacuum distillation. But, I am more interested in the vacuum system (ejectors, condensers, liquid ring pumps, etc.).

Hi,

I don't believe you will find anything in   Aspen plus regarding your query.

https://www.cheresou...-in-aspen-plus/

Try your favorite search engine for equipment design.

Note: Prepare specifications sheets and submit them to vendors/manufacturers.

Good luck

Thank you so much Breizh! I will go through your documents.
I was wondering why it us not possible we do the heat and mass balances around the vacuum systems ourselves? Like for a example with a refrigeration cycle?

Hi,

Ejectors are static mechanical devices, very specific equipment with performances very much linked to the design. As a Process guy you don't design it, you may be able to trouble shoot if you understand the physic associated with the Ejector.

In other words, let the specialist to take the risks, just provide the process data.

Ok Breizh, thank you so much!!
I am curious to learn more and understand what make the ejectors more special than compressors!! ????

Hi,

Consider a steam ejector on process point of view to be a black box where you pull the non-condensable and may be some come condensable materials. You need to perform a mass balance around your system (column +condenser) to get the quantity of materials pull by the ejector (search info on this forum a lot already posted and/or visit Graham website). For the quantity of steam, you need input from the vendor, you just need to give him input about the pressure /temperature of steam available.

Note: If you pull some water out of the system, you may need a jacketed ejector to prevent ice built up at the throat of the ejector.

More homework is needed on your side and forget about the idea to simulate every piece of equipment.

Good luck

Breizh

Thanks Breizh for the explanation!
I convinced myself to forget the simulation of the vacuum system hehehe ????

I have some experience in modeling vacuum overhead system in Aspen HYSYS, Unisim Design and ChemCad. If interested, I can send links to my articles. I think a vacuum system could be included in Aspen HYSYS.
