Hi all,

I'm currently doing some reliability improvements for an open loop pumped distribution system.

Normal operation is to run both pumps, and each operating at their best efficiency points (BEP). The system is balanced at the pumps BEP using an orifice plate on the return line to create back pressure on the pumps.

The issue that comes about is when one of the pumps goes offline (either for maintenance or trips etc.,), the other pump goes into a run-out condition - essentially running off the end of its curve at high flow.

What options are possible here to prevent this occurring? Back-pressure control valve? Move the current x2 pumps further up their curve, moving them away from the BEP, but would have the benefit of not having the single pump operation running off the end of its curve?

Thanks
