Hi Everyone,

I am wondering if anyone has any recommended formula to calculate the terminal velocity for a cube particle.

I found a lot of literature for sphere particles, but not for cube particles.

Thanks a lot.

Regards,

Jordan

Hi,

You may want to consider a spherical particle with the same area than a cubic particle.

Edit:

pi*d^2=6*a^2

d = sqrt (6/pi) *a    with a =side cube and d=equivalent diameter of the sphere.

d=1.382 *a

my 2 cents

I would choose 0.8 for drag coefficient assuming the cube would freely rotate and on average be edge-first. Corner-first would have drag a bit above 0.5. Flat-side first would be 1.05. Drag values are based on this reference:  https://qph.fs.quora...72319806a83b2e7  A terminal velocity calculator with formulas referenced can be found here: https://www.gigacalc...-calculator.php
