Hi We have a pipeline for transferring the c2+ to the NGL plant. The client has requested to considered surge drum(balanced tank) at inlet pipeline to NGL to eliminate the fluctuation of fluid in pump suction. It is noticeable that our tie in point is on a pipe that comes from another unit in NGL and enters to the pump. I do not understand the reason for this request. Meanwhile the tie in point operating pressure is 38 barg and the vapor pressure of C2+ will be 33 bar. I would appreciate it if you could guide me.

It sounds like the client wants a constant pressure at the inlet to the pump and hopes a surge drum will help provide smoother operation.

Hi

the source of C2+ is about 180 km -10 inch pipeline from another NGL.

dear Pilesar : Yes but I think it is not required because the pipeline could be like a big surge drum. do you think that this issue is correct?

Hi,

You may be interested in the document attached. I'm not sure it's relevant for your design.

Note: At the end of the day,it's a requirement from your client the one who pays.

I would insist on a surge drum in the unit. It should operate at the bubble point pressure of the liquid. It needs to be properly protected against overpressure. It is potentially a relief of the total feed. So, a HIPPS may be the best protection. There will still be a PSV required for fire protection relief.

Hi Bobby,

The next questions will be, how big the drum and where to release the stream at the outlet of the PSV?
