Gas In Pipe Support

Something confusing just happened. A carbon steel pipe used as a support only and not carrying hydrocarbon released sufficient quantity of gas, both methane and CO and triggered the gas detector while being cut for replacement. Where did the gas come from? Any similar experience? Any ideas?

Weird!
Is the sensor calibrated and in good condition?
Do you apply Hot work permit and monitoring prior to work?
Is it an original pipe support or recycling pipe used as a support?
Is it possible that the soil is polluted and contaminated the place or the pipe?
You are the only one to find out the root cause being at site.

Moisture + anaerobic bacteria ingress. Typical for a confined non-vented space.
