There have been several discussions here in the past regarding pipe entrance and exit losses and it seems to be a fairly general area of confusion. There are also some popular fluids texts that confuse the effects of friction losses with pressure changes caused by Bernoulli effects. I have gone through all the old posts and the texts that I have, and tried to summarize it all into one document with some simple examples to clarify typical situations we have to deal with in our designs. Probably the most useful, but surprising, conclusion is that in almost all practical situations the friction loss K value for the exit should be ignored. I hope this is helpful to my fellow members here.
