dear all,

During surge analysis, can we take credit of pressure controller ( to reduce the system pressure if it goes higher than set point) during valve closure or pump trip scenarios?

Or the analysis should perform without considering pressure control logic as a conservative to predict force loads for piping support design.please advise

thanks

Is it possible for that pressure controller to fail on demand? Valve closure AND controller failure is not double jeopardy.

That's the reason we have ESD system. By extension, we don't take credit for DCS controller behavior during surge. And it may not matter much at all, as surge can happen much faster than how the DCS controller responds.
