Hello there,

Currently, we have BB-5 type centrifugal pump handling LPG with ~21 Kg/cm2 at suction end. For priming the pump after any maintenance, 3/4" pipe is connected to pump casing at top in one end and kept in Open to atmosphere at other end ~3m away from pump base. It is kept in open, only for confirming that liquid LPG is filled up inside the pump casing and whenever, the pump priming is carried out, it creates a safety hazard since the LPG is getting vented locally. Connecting the priming line to flare header would be safer but how can we ensure pump is primed with Liquid LPG? Any view glass can be installed as per standard? Please suggest.

@shvet1

Yes, As the service fluid being LPG, the fire hazard it creates is high.

Spilling out the liquid propane a couple meters close to a pump is definitely an unique and contradictory case
In your case there is no simple tips. Find a competent engineering contractor to audit this process site as the whole.

Hi,

Did you check with manufacturer how to prime the pump?

You may not have the right technology?

Sight glass at the priming line is one solution, although in itself comes with its unique issues.
