I am come cross the Positive Displacement pump P&ID in my current project. Where the suction line design condition are considered as same as discharge design condition. In general for centrifugal pump, up to the suction isolation valve the discharge design conditions will be considered.

Could any one please clarify why the entire suction line is considered as similar to discharge design condition?

Convenience, less piping specs.

Hi,

Should be at least the same size or larger inlet and outlet pump's ports.

Hydraulic calculation is required to optimize the pipe size, cavitation and head loss.
