17(M) im from India. I've completed my high school and about major in chemical engineering (bachelors) at a tier1 govt college here in India. Is the field good for my future both skill and money wise ? I'm hearing stuff like chemical engineering is dying and the demand is getting less compared to courses like comp sci , etc.

Also I'm gettin offers in petroleum engineering and pharmaceutical engineering from better colleges , shd I consider doing them, do they have scope or are they too specialized?

Pls help an amateur , Thank you .

All the fields you mentioned pay well. Follow what interests you. A career is a very long time, do what you love, and it won’t feel like work.

I do not know what is right for you. When I was in a similar situation as you, my decision to get a college degree in chemical engineering was based on versatility. With a chemical engineering degree, I would have the option to apply to doctor school or lawyer school if I did not like straight chemical engineering. I did not really enjoy learning the hard academic theoretical courses and wondered whether I had made the correct choice. Then while I was in college, I worked in industry in a co-operative education program where I alternated periods of working and academic classes. I really enjoyed the problem solving and investigation aspects and decided to continue toward my degree. I still had the doctor school or lawyer school as a backup plan. In over 40 years career as a process engineer, I never regretted getting a chemical engineering degree. The pay was good and I made it a priority to save funds in case I would need them for living expenses during my next job hunt. More than once I was out of work for longer than six months. Chemical engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers work in many different kinds of industries. Petroleum, nuclear and pharmaceutical engineers have more limited employment choices. I prioritized versatility and worked in several industries. One successful chemical engineer I know owned his own furniture store. Another owns his own child education business. Two of the 45 U.S. Presidents were engineers.
