Dear Friends,

I'm searching for process design calculation for Packed plate acid cooler for sulphuric acid plant. I read "Heat Exchanger hand book" but I just found some example and charts about water plate heat exchanger there that couldn't help me. as well searched in the internet but...oh god I got confused.I hope you don't think that I'm a lazy student! because we just read about shell and tube heat exchanger in university. anyway I 'll appreciate for any information from you about this matter.

regards,
ASAD

ASAD,
I can understand your confusion, as the design of heat exchangers is not a trivial task. If fact, if you seek the mechanical configuration, such as number and size of plates, etc., do not expect this to be readily obtainable at all. Start by defining the basic process design - process and utility flowrates and physical properties as well as temperature & pressure of both sides in and out. If you move into the mechanical design of such an exchanger, you will need software supplied (probably) by a vendor to complete your design. Manufacturers of such equipment may or may not be interested in supplying you with their software - you should contact one (such as Alfa Laval) and ask. Even if you are successful in this task, understand that you'll be getting a preliminary basic mechanical design. I don't even know how readily available correlations for such a design are; they may be very difficult or impossible to find.

Dear Friends;

I searched alot but...I'm not disappointed yet!. the only practical example regard to design of Plate heat exchangers that I found was in MCCabe Smith book " Unit Operations" and HEAT EXCHANGER DESIGN HANDBOOK(by Brian Spalding) that I suggest you to read it if you are interesred in this case ( although as you will see you will need more information for special cases i.e Sulfuric acid coolers.but at least this book gives you an idea.)any way I'll Appreciate if you inform me any subject regarding this matter.

ASAD.

"Coulson and Richerdson's Design Handbook Vol 6" contains some examples of plate exchanger design.
