Dear All,

Please share with the the simplest/basic formula or equations that I can use to calculate flowrates of the following thru pipeworks:
(i) low pressure steam (1 - 2 bar)
(ii) nitrogen/inert gas.

I'm trying to figure out the flow rates, so that I can calculate the relief valve sizing -can the relief valve take it if the pipework bursts.

Appreciate your help.

Rgds,
Narseille de Gebeng

It's just a simple application of the ideal gas law and pipe dimensions. If all you have is pressure drop through the piping, then you might-could use bernoulli's relationship.

Narseille:

Your question is very poorly explained. If you have to ask how to calculate flow rates, then I would advise you to find an experienced engineer to size that relief valve ... don't try it yourself.
