I'm doing a design on synthesis of fatty alcohol sulfate from raw material fatty acid, and fatty alcohol as the intermediate. Currently I'm only able to find flowsheets producing fatty alcohol thru the i) Suspension hydrogenation ii) Gas phase hydrogenation iii) Trickle bed hydrogenation . Can anyone tell me what is the meaning of suspension hydrogenation and trickle bed hydrogenation? According to references, the suspension hydrogenation uses the Lurgi process. As for the sulfation of fatty alcohol, the process involves a falling film reactor. Anybody know how to design a falling film reactor? Can I use a Pack Bed Reactor instead of falling film reactor for the sulfation of fatty alcohol? I hope there are experts out there who can answer my question! I would appreciate if anyone could tell me where to look for the process flow diagram for the entire production.
