Hello every one,

Are there reliable methods of accurately measuring flow rates in pipes without installing any measuring devices inside the pipe dew to the fact that the pipe can not be emptied and isolated. The pipe has no insulation and is 16 inch carbon steel used as part of the blow down network to the flare.

Best regards

Alawi,

You may consider Ultra-Sonic Flowmeter (clamp-on).

Ultra sonic flowmeter has the following benefits / advantages compare to other type of flowmeters ;

- Low TURNDOWN (can be as low as 2750-to-1)
- "Zero" pressure drop)
- No internal, insertion and moving parts
- Can tolerate certain amount of condensed liquid
- Take higher operating temperature **
- Not affected by gas composition
- No maintenance

** My personal experience upto 260 degC.

Yes, untrasonic flow meter should be a good choice. At the same time you can have it in a portable form. However, from my experience, it is not as accurate as mass flow meter...
