Try using The Chemcial Engineers' Resource Page as your gateway to chemical engineering knowledge. Explore this web site first and utilize its contents. Then use the links.
There are many articles on this site that are written for both the inexperienced and the experienced. For example, I have a series of articles on Rupture Disks (See the link "Process Engineering-As I See It") that was written for the inexperienced.
There are many articles all throught this site, just browse.

For a very minimal cost, $36/year for a student, you may consider http://www.efunda.com/home.cfm which has engineering fundamentals
