im workin on my final year project and i am to performe material and energy balance on the cooling tower(induced draft) .. which is installed for cooling the water coming from a plant producing 1500metricton NH3 per day

i need the related data for material and engery balance calculation.............
of NH3 production plant of any cpacity .......... if any one can provied of nh3 production 1500 ton per day i will b more than happy.................

i need information like

what in the inlet flow rate of cooling tower
what is the out let flow rate from cooling tower
what is the inlet temperature of water ......
what are chemicalks which are dosed in the water
makeup water quantity

thnx for helping in advance

Dear,
First of all let us know that the project is design of cooling tower or it is specific i.e CW tower for ammonia unit.If your project is cooilng tower design then you have to design it for certain load but your project is quite specific i.e. Coolin water for NH3 plant then in this case you have to have the energy balance of the NH3 unit which even you can perform.Get the Process flow diagram of NH3 syntesis find the number of equipments (Condensers and Coolers) where cooling water is used. Then calculate the cooling water required for each CW user of taking the temp range of 10 C in CW side. This will give you the total Cooling water requirement. And accordingly you can design the cooilng tower based on the calculated load.
This is the only approach because I don't think anyone will perform this mass & energy balance calculation for the above said capacity of NH3 Plant or wait till someone will share his experience regarding the cooling load of the NH3 Unit. But what I suggest you is rather to depend on someone you do the mass & energy balance calculations and get the cooling load of the unit which will make more confident than just to rely on someone will give the load for the said capacity and accordingly you will design your cooling tower.
Anyways all the best.

my project is to design a cooling tower for certain load ......... and this load is euqal to the load of a cooling tower/s for 1500 ton per day NH3 production unit ......

my project advisor has asked me to go to any ENGRO fertilizers which is producing this much amount of NH3 but this company is at a drive of 11 hrs from where i live so i posted here to ask ....... that ............. if anyone here is working for fertilizer or NH3 producing company he can help me with these figuers........

what in the inlet flow rate of cooling tower
what is the out let flow rate from cooling tower
what is the inlet temperature of water ......
what are chemicals and their amount per ton of water which are dosed in the water ..
makeup water quantity

............ if anyone has CW tower load for other that 1500ton per day NH3 production he can also help me .. coz assumtion of linear relation is always there to help.......smile.gif

Dear,
First of all let me appreciate you confidence. My dear do one thing do the basic calculation for the designing of the cooling water for the certain load say 'X' MW.Put all the calculations into an excel spreadsheet but while doing make sure that once you will come to know the actual load you will just put the value and according to that you will get all the balance calculations.
I am sorry to make a request to you that go to the concerned plant ,visit the actual unit and the cooling tower and have a feel.I think this should be the precise way to do your project as like your punch line reflects to us.
Anyways I am unable to upload copy herewith which will guide you the bare minimum basic to know before designing the cooling tower. If you will share your mail id I will send it to you.

Hi.

For cooling towers, download the Cooling Tower Fundamentals at:
http://spxcooling.com/en/library/
From SPX Cooling Technologies
Is heavy file, that be patient.

Good luck.
