Hey,
I am undertaking a design project based on the "Hock Process" for production of acetone and phenol from cumene hydroperoxide (CHP).
Cumene is oxidised to CHP in a series of oxidisers with the exiting stream being concentrated from ~39 wt% CHP to ~85 wt% CHP by evaporation of cumene.
This evaporation has to be carried out in a vacuum in order to reduce the B.P of cumene (152.56 C) as CHP is explosive on heating upwards of 150 C.
I am having problems finding the necessary data to perform calculations over this process.
The type of evaporator, operating pressure/temp, cumene press/temp tables, film heat transfer co-efficient?
I have access to standard steam tables but pointless without relevant operating pressure.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also are there any databases with liquid-vapour equilibrium data. I need to construct an equilibrium curve for distillation separation of acetone and phenol and have been unsuccessful in locating data thus far.

Many thanks again for any suggestions ye might have.

Graham,
If you could get your hands on the chemical engineering database book, not sure name, by the astute Dr. Paddy Hurley, it should be able to give you the information required.
Hope this helps!
Noel
