hi!
We have a oil despatch terminal connected to all the crude oil processing installations (32 nos through 4 cross country pipelines) upstream and refinery (77 KM pipeline to desalter) downstream.
These installations have their own tanks which have come up in an adhoc manner.
At this despatch terminal, crude oil along with 7-10% water is received in one of the available tanks which after safe filling is allowed to settle for a day and then put under despatch after draining the free water. there are presently 4 tanks of 10000 m3 cap handling almost 7800 m3/d liquid.
We also have a 10-yr production profile available with us. We would like to review the required storage capacity for meeting operational contengencies both at upstream installations and this despatch terminal so as not to affect our crude oil production and despatch operations.
Is there any recommended practice to be followed while firming up storage tanks requirements in such a situation?

In order to ensure 99.9% availability of the Terminal for loading oil, the current understanding is that you should provide 7 days storage.

A VLCC can be loaded in 30 hours; 2 VLCC per week means 5 million bbls loading per week.
