Dear Sir/Mam

I am bit confused in calculating the volume of Hot water tank. This tank has following details

Temperature IN 25 C
Temperature OUT 90 C

Inlet Raw Water
Steam had been purged into the tank to increase the temperature.

Requirement of Hot water in following equipment

Plate type heat exchangers 16.62 m3/hr
Reactor 12.06 m3/hr
Fluidized bed dryer 20 m3/hr
HVAC 15 m3/hr

Can you guide me how to appraoch the problem ?

regards

Why use a tank at all? I have made hot water successfully by sparging the steam directly into a pipe. When you can answer why you need a tank then you will have the answer to what size it should be. For example, you may need a tank for more precise temperature control, or to overcome an erratic steam supply, or surges in take off. You need a lot more information than you have given before you can rationalize the sizing of the tank.

I favor the approach advocated by katmar. The only good reason I see to have a tank is if your water heating system is to be circulating, like a tempered water system. Then the tank would serve to permit expansion of the water, mainly as you startup and shutdown your system. If you're wondering how to sparge steam into your water, you might want to do a www search for Pick Heaters. I'm sure there are others, but they've been making these type heaters for many decades.

Hi All

Thanks for the information. I am now making a sheet for 24 hours & filling the requirement on per hour basis. Taking peak load from this sheet I will calculate Heat required accordingly I can purge steam into the tank. Tank vaolume then can be estimated on ther basis of condensation of steam & vapourization of water & requirement of Hot water on hourly basis.

If anyone want to suggest any more information or correct my procedure, I appreciate them.

regards

Ashutosh
