Dear all,

Is it possible to do simulation for polymerization process in HYSYS?
such as derivation from ethylene to polyethylene which involve polymerization step.

Thanks.
Reena

Hi Reena,

Aspen Tech who have now taken over Hysys, are also the suppliers of a polymerization simulation package called Polymer Plus. Hysys cannot perform polymerization reactor simulations because the kinetics for polymerization processes are not built in Hysys. Check out this link for Aspen Tech Polymer plus:

Thanks Ankur for your reply, the software that we are going to use is ICON (Petronas Simulation software). so I am wondering whether can I model the polymerization process in this ICON instead of using Aspen software.

Thanks,
Reen

Hi,

I cannot advise you on "ICON" since I have no idea about this software. Anyway, best of luck with your simulation.

Regards,
Ankur.

My suggestion is using Aspen polymer plus to finish it.

Just wondering, Aspentech HYSYS and Aspen Polymers are different products/simulation?

Hamidhizami,

HYSYS was originally developed by "Hyprotech" which was acquired by "AspenTech" a few years ago and hence the name AspenTech HYSYS.

AspenTech Polymer Plus is a simulation module developed originally by AspenTech and is specifically used for modelling / simulating commercial polymer processes such as PE (HDPE, LLDPE,), Polyypropylene, PVC, PET Polyester, Nylon and other common polymers. Polymers using both the addition polymerization and condensation polymerization method can be modelled.

Ankur.

How about PROii? does ProII can perform the polymerization process?

DanielGong,

I have no personal exposure to PROII. However, the link below says that polymerization processes can be modeled in PROII:
