Can you tell me a little more about the solution - is it organic, inorganic, oil, water, or what. Do you have any ideas about what should be in the solution? What is the source and/or process that produced the solution?

Try a refractometer - it refracts different shades of a solution to a certain degree which can then be referenced to test done during the standardization process.
