Dear Freinds,

Pls advise / suggest me which equation to use for calculating the pressure drop across perforated plate, for which the details i have given below.

Details:

Diameter of the perforated bed 1200 mm
Diameter of the holes 5 mm
No of Holes 517 Nos
Mass Flowrate of Gas 2240 kg /Hr
Density of gas 1.23 kg /m3

Kindly send the details as soon as possible.

Thanks & Regards

Have you checked the Perry's handbook, Chapter-Gas absorption and Gas-Liquid system design, perforated tray is a sieve tray and there you can found correlations.

For simple estimates you can use orifice equation considering
equal flow from each perforation (Hole). Or

Consider the equv dia (equal to cross sectional area of all holes) as orifice dia
& use Bed dia similar to pipe dia and then calculate pressure drop.

Both ways it will be approx same & good initial estimate.
