Good day guys,

Could somebody explain me which could be possibles causes of water hammer in the pipe, if my system has these folow conditions:
*.- Velocity of fluid is 5 m/sec,
* Any control valve is present arrow the pipe
*.- The pipe is the suction of a Centrifugal pump.

Could be one of the causes that a suddenly stop of the pump or pump trip?

I will appreciate your help, if I need to explain me better please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

5 m/sec velocity on the suction line of a pump is huge to me. The figure is high even for a discharge line. What you are experiencing is most probably called cavitation.
My English language knowledge is not that good to understand what you meant by
"Any control valve is present arrow the pipe"
I am afraid you have to reformulate.

Regards

Andrei thanks for your quick answer.. My english it is not so good.. my apolologize.
I want to say that there is not control valve on the pipe line.
Additionally my fluid is Slurry, so the settling velocity (5 m/sec) is a constrain.

Surge may occur when :

i) Sudden closure of valve i.e. SDV, CV, etc along the pipeline - Forward flow force to reverse
ii) Pump stop - Loss of driven force reverse flow occur
iii) Slurry agglomerated knocking at bend and slowdown or induced backflow
