Hello to forum members,

I would like to get some advices regarding exchanger selection for cryogenic turbo-expander plants (LPG recovery).

The lowest temperature those exchangers will be designed for is about -50C. Operating pressure goes all the way up to 100bar, and in some exchangers the differential pressure (pressure difference between hot and cold side) is more than 75bar. Flowrates are quite substantial, ranging from 150,000kg/h to 200,000kg/h. Duties up to 8MW. Exchanger service is either inlet/residue gas exchanger, or deethanizer reflux condenser.

In general, I know that alluminum brazed plate-fin exchangers, printed-circuit exchangers, spiral wound exchangers, and Packinox-type of exchangers are suitable for such process conditions. I was hoping to get feedback from forum members, particularly from those people who have hands-on experience in cryogenic plant design and operation. And to get some recommendations about heat transfer equipment vendors.

Best regards,

It appears there is an association of brazed alluminum plate-fin exchangers manufacturers, called ALPEMA. The website is: ALPEMA

ALPEMA offers PFHE standards for free: PFHE Standards

I'm still looking, however, to find out if there are ChE forum members with hands-on experience in cryogenic turbo-expander plant heat transfer equipment. Art, do you have some hints/advices/recommendations on this topic, or can you refer to someone specific?

Best regards,

It looks like this is my solo-thread, I apologize to the administrator and forum members.
I thought it would be useful to post my conclusions here, after intensive research on the topic and after receiving feedback from equipment manufacturing vendors.

The most reputed companies for cryogenic heat transfer equipment seem to be:

http://www.chart-ind.com/
http://www.heatric.com/
http://www.linde.de/

They are willing to provide budgetary proposals and detailed equipment design, and were able to resolve all my queries. In case you need them, there they are.

Best regards,
