How you came across the word "trim duty" ? From HYSYS or TEXT (and what is it ?)
"Trim duty" in common engineering term mean "remove unnecessary duty"

Trim Duty was the term i took form the hysys refining tutorial. It was also refered to as Q-trim and it is linked to the column as an energy stream. I don't know what the purpose of it is just that i think it adds another degree of freedom to the column

Hi,
This duty stream is there to offset the energy balance and faster converge the column, usually in curde column (heavy streams). Ideally you should once the column is solved identify how to correct the energy balance and minimise or remove the trim duty stream.
When dealing with heavy streams this could be a major issue as plant data and simulation energy may not prefectly match. The trim duty stream helps alot
Cheers,
SM
