I am interested in knowing the packages used in NMP extraction of distillates from Vac distillation unit of a Lube based refinery. Can anyone tell what are the thermo packages to be selected in the extractor design?

thanks

What are you extracting actually, and out of which products?
NMP and its substitutes are sometimes used in physical solvent formulations for acid component exctraction. In such case, you would need accurate BIP parameters required to define vapor-liquid equilibrium.
Give us little more feedback, if you can.

NMP is used here in liquid liquid extraction as solvent to separate all aromatics from straight run vacuum distillate cuts which boosts the Viscosity index of the distillate. The non aromatics is dewaxed to get lube oil base stocks for lube production.

Have you tried with the most common Peng-Robinson? Since it is physical absorption, it might be moderately suitable - although it is not recommended for VLLE systems. There are some published articles on the topic - authors were using experimental data subsequently incorporated into NRTL and UNIQUAC models.
I hope you have sufficient input data for characterization of heavy vacuum distillates: HYSYS will broke it down to a certain level of Paraffin-Naphthene-Aromatics ratio, based on the data you have provided. Density and viscosity curves are highly recommended.

Dear vkiocl Hello,
'NMP' is abbreviation of something or it is a brand name? pardon my ignorance please!

NMP stands for N-methylpyrrolidone. Apart from aromatics extraction in lube oil refineries, it is the solvent for acid gas removal (PURISOL process).

Dear Zauberberg/vkiocl,
I assume essentially it is almost identical system to 'Fufural Extraction Unit(s)' with an objective
To Improve stability of lube oil stocks (Improvement of VI, Colour& Transparency)
We (at my previous employers) had two lube oil refineries;however NMP's use definitely an update.
Best regards
