For a surface type condenser used with a condensing type steam turbine, an Air extraction system is to be designed. What are the possible alternatives & what consideration should go in sizing of vacuume pumps? I would be grateful if anybody could provide some guidelines in this regard, or could suggest a relevent weblink.

I believe it is the Heat Exchanger Institute (HEI) whose standards govern how much air infilration can be expected into a vacuum system. Check into that. For most large system, and I assume yours is a large system since you have a turbine/surface condenser, I've only seen steam eductors used for air extraction. Check with an eductor system supplier such as Graham or Croll Reynolds for their recommendations. I think both offer downloadable software for sizing such systems, but for the best quality results, check with a representative.

I remember GEA website had been an excellent source of graphs and correlations for various vacuum systems - although this was several years ago. Anyway, you can check it.
