I am trying to design a direct contact heat exchanger which is an equivalent of an humidification operation. I have tried using absorption column to simulate but without any success .
can anybody help me with this ?

Regards

It's hard to imagine what you really seek. Inform us as to what you are trying to cool and what the desired start and end conditions are. Obviously, it is OK to saturate your vapor stream with water vapor, right? Do you envision a packed or trayed contactor (not an absorber)? If so, I know Munters for one is a vendor offering a product that might work. Do some more homework, and if you're still having problems then get back to us with more particulars.

HKk,

I think the operation you are trying to simulate is called quench, and you want to design a quench tower. It's true, it has a basic function of a heat exchanger but it's called tower.
Depending on the gas temperature gradient you want to achieve you can use a simple flash (separator vessel) or a tower. Basically a tower is equivalent to a series of flashes.
You should not need to many theoretical trays to achieve your desired temperature, usually two would be enough. The water flow should be adjusted for some top-bottom temperature gradient depending to what type of cooling you want to use (open or closed circuit). Inside the tower you should apply all the rules from distillation, not absorption. The difficulty will come if and when you want to simulate the internals. Quench towers usually are packed, you cannot do it in Hysys. You can just assume a certain constant pressure drop on the tower.

Good luck
